KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) takes pride in its establishment of a mandate to advance Malaysia's renewable energy mix, says its chairman Ahmad Zairin Ismail.
He said the statutory body, established under the Sustainable Energy Development Authority Act 2011, has been entrusted with implementing pivotal policies, including the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) and Net Energy Metering (NEM), which, according to him, have catalysed the growth of sustainable energy in the nation.
“This initiative has played a crucial role in empowering individuals, businesses, startups and homegrown enterprises to harness renewable energy, enabling them to participate in the energy transition,” he said at the 6th International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2024, which commenced today, featuring the theme “Accelerating Energy Transition Through Innovation.”
The two-day event, organised by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) through SEDA, gathers over 5,000 global participants and was officially launched by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of PETRA.
According to Ahmad Zairin, ISES 2024 is “more than just a conference”.
“It is a premier platform where esteemed experts, leaders and innovators come together to explore the vast potential of sustainable energy.
“Our theme this year highlights the urgency of expediting the sustainable energy transition through innovative approaches,” he said.
He also highlighted the scale of this year's event, which features 15 strategic partners, 70 exhibitors and 70 speakers across four plenary sessions and eight deep-dive workshops.
“The summit is meticulously tailored with specialised topics designed to meet the needs of those striving for the wide-scale implementation of cutting-edge solutions to propel a sustainable energy future,” he said.
He added that over the years, the summit has addressed crucial topics including scaling up sustainable energy deployment, managing energy policies, handling grid management with high solar PV penetration, developing innovative energy storage solutions, rural electrification, and financing sustainable energy projects.
“Thanks to the implementation of progressive government policies and initiatives, we have successfully transformed our energy system towards a more sustainable model,” he said.
