Over 667 Users Have Installed Solar Systems, Received Solaris Rebates Since April 1 - Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- Over 667 users of the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme have successfully installed solar systems and received rebates from the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS), which was introduced on April 1, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said the majority of users received a rebate of RM4,000 each through SolaRIS.

“An analysis shows that the average number of NEM Rakyat applications increased from about 100 per day before the SolaRIS scheme was launched to 150 per day after its launch.

“This step will boost the uptake of solar installations among domestic users and contribute to the target of increasing renewable energy capacity in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR),” he said.

He said this in response to a question from Azli Yusof (PH-Shah Alam) regarding the latest developments in the SolaRIS implementation during the question-and-answer session.

In addition, Fadillah said SolaRIS is able to reduce the cost of solar system installation for domestic users due to economies of scale, making solar systems more affordable for the public.

Responding to Azli’s supplementary question on whether the government plans to establish guidelines for transferring the Sustainable Energy Development Authority’s (SEDA) licence if a homeowner sells their house, Fadillah said the issue would be discussed.

“This matter will be brought up for discussion at the SEDA level, and a policy will be issued later,” he said.
