Johor Eyes Collaboration With Sarawak On Renewable Energy Initiatives

JOHOR BAHRU, June 20 (Bernama) -- Johor is keen to collaborate with Sarawak on renewable energy initiatives, especially hydrogen technology, said Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.

The Johor Sustainability Centre chairman said a state government delegation led by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is expected to visit Sarawak in the near future for this purpose.

He said the visit’s goal includes strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise towards developing renewable energy.

“We learnt that Sarawak intends to export renewable energy to Singapore, and if it utilises hydrogen technology, Johor can learn from this.

“We can also explore the potential of using hydrogen as a source of energy,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Paragon Globe Berhad (PGB) and UOB Malaysia here today.

Also present were PGB executive chairman Datuk Seri Edwin Tan Pei Seng and UOB Malaysia managing director and country head of wholesale banking Andy Cheah Shu Kheem.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg previously said that the state is set to become the largest hydrogen fuel producer and supplier in the Southeast Asian region beginning in 2023.

Meanwhile, Tan, in his speech, said PGB plans to develop its first green industrial park, PGB @ Tech Park @ Nusajaya at Iskandar Puteri, with a total gross development value (GDV) of RM957 million.

“Phase one, consisting of 88 units of factories, is expected to be completed in 2027 with the GDV estimated to be RM419.1 million.

“Phase two, comprising eight units of factories and one dormitory with 350 rooms to accommodate up to 5,250 workers, is expected to be completed in 2028 with the GDV estimated to be RM537.9 million,” he said.

He added that the project is located at Gerbang Nusajaya on a 115.90-acre freehold land and will be the first green industrial park in Johor to attain Green Real Estate (RE) Gold certification.
