KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- SME Corp Malaysia is dedicated to fostering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across ministries and agencies, aided by government support, particularly in the green energy sector.
Its deputy chief executive officer (policy and coordination) Mohd Rithaudden Makip said the corporation is collaborating with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to tackle challenges green energy companies encounter, exploring potential government interventions to enhance solutions and support.
“Apart from green energy, SME Corp will engage with various industrial associations and small and medium enterprises to plan for the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP),” he said during a panel session titled ‘MSME Growth: Supporting the Backbone of Malaysia’s Economy’ at BNM’s Sasana Symposium 2024.
He noted that this year, there are 270 programmes allocated RM15.1 billion to support MSME development across all ecosystems, including market access and financing.
“These assistances are provided through 16 ministries and over 60 agencies,” he said.
Mohd Rithaudden elaborated on some challenges faced by MSMEs, such as a digitalisation gap affecting back-end management including human resources and inventory management.
“This is important, and we have found that many of our MSMEs sometimes lack productivity,” he said.
He also highlighted the difficulties businesses face regarding chain linkages and market access that need to be addressed.
“Our target is to integrate them into the global value chain, connecting local markets with international opportunities, and expanding their horizons to other international markets,” he added.
