MACHANG, April 22 (Bernama) -- The pilot project to install solar panels at residential units under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme will commence in September.
Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) chairman Datuk Husam Musa said discussions and meetings have already been held with three companies capable of supplying these solar panels, covering aspects of cost-saving and logistics.
“We initiated these discussions in December last year with companies interested in collaborating to install solar panels at RMR homes.
“Additionally, we will evaluate the suitability of these houses for solar panel installation to ensure residents’ comfort,” he told reporters today.
Earlier, he presented a house key replica to Sayed Sanusi Sayed Kadir, 51, under the RMR 2.0 programme for the Machang constituency in Kampung Bagan Bawah here.
Elaborating, Husam said these solar panels could reduce electricity bills and ease the burden of RMR homeowners, who mostly belong to the B40 group.
In a related development, he said SPNB aimed to build 3,100 RMR 2.0 units nationwide this year.
“For RMR 2.0, owners are not required to pledge land, and the remaining payment of RM55,000 needs to be paid in cash to SPNB. Therefore, the approval process is much faster than RMR 1.0 because there is no need to wait for turns.
“As of March, SPNB has received 58 applications and commenced the construction of 17 units of RMR 2.0 homes, with one unit completed since its introduction in February this year,” he said.
From 2002 until March 2024, SPNB has built 64,657 units of RMR nationwide, with Kelantan leading the tally with 10,231 units, followed by Terengganu and Johor.
