GUA MUSANG, 19 Jan (Bernama) -- For the past 14 years, eight families in Kampung Sungai Bayu Dalam here, have been relying on solar energy and generators for their daily electricity needs.
Despite the presence of erected electric poles along the route to the village, there is still no access to electricity supply.
A resident, Rapiah Ismail, 63, shared that in the past, she used oil lamps, but for the last 10 years, she had been depending on solar power for lighting and charging phones.
“However, during the rainy season, solar power becomes ineffective, so I resort to using a generator at night. On average, I spend RM20 a day on petrol to keep the generator running," she said when met by reporters here today.
Che Adam Che Kob, 67, echoed a similar sentiment, emphasising that several villagers have to allocate up to RM30 a day for petrol, depending on the number of appliances and equipment in their homes.
"The area around our homes is surrounded by plantations, exposing us to significant risks posed by various threats, including the presence of animals such as wild boars and elephants.
“Consequently, the monthly cost for petrol amounts to RM900 because every day, from 6 pm to 6 am we rely on either solar lights or a generator to light up our surroundings," he said.
Another resident, Khairudin Che Ibrahim, 41, expresses hope that the relevant authorities will speed up their application for electricity supply.
"Despite applying twice to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), there has been no response. We urgently need electricity, especially during cloudy weather when solar power doesn't charge, leaving us in darkness at night," he said.
Meanwhile, Gua Musang Member of Parliament Mohd Azizi Abu Naim pledged to bring the residents' concerns to the attention of the relevant ministry.
"Although there are already electric poles in the area, residents still lack access to electricity from TNB.
“I understand there may be constraints that need time to address, but I am confident that the government will take prompt and decisive actions to resolve this issue, considering its impact on eight out of the 14 families in this village, he said.
