KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association (MPIA) has launched the MPIA Solar Roadshow 2024 in line with the government’s targets of achieving 40 per cent renewable energy capacity by 2040 and 70 per cent by 2050.
MPIA president Davis Chong Chun Siong said the roadshow series, themed “Liberalisation of the Grid”, began its Kuala Lumpur leg today covering topics such as Grid Readiness Towards Enabling Energy Transition and Unveiling the Electric Vehicle (EV) Landscape: Pioneering the Feature Sustainable Mobility.
The roadshow will go on until September and cover Johor, Penang, Pahang and Selangor, he said during the launch at KL Sentral today.
“It will feature speakers from government bodies such as the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) as well as Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB),” he said.
Today’s event was officiated by Energy Commission chairman Mohammed Rashdan Mohd Yusof.
Mohammed Rashdan said he would like to see an increase in solar energy system usage and eventually turn it into a primary energy source for the country.
“Solar energy production in Peninsular Malaysia at the moment is 1.6 per cent, and I see that as a good opportunity to get it higher to 65 per cent for the benefit of not only yourselves but for every Malaysian and the development of our data,” he said in his speech.
The Kuala Lumpur leg saw a significant turnout of more than 350 participants, and the roadshow will continue its journey to four other locations which are Johor, Penang, Pahang and Selangor starting March 5 until this September.
