MELAKA, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The state government is committed to intensifying efforts to promote the use of green energy among its people, said state Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.
He said this was in line with the federal government's commitment as announced under Budget 2024 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday regarding climate change and green technology.
"I noticed the budget tabled yesterday focused on local authorities (PBT) and climate change. This is something very positive and I am grateful for the focus given to green energy," he said.
He said this at a press conference after launching a beach cleaning and recycling programme with Petronas and the local community at Pantai Puteri here today, which was attended by Petronas Southern Region general manager Mohd Zaki Mahat.
Rais said various initiatives implemented at both the federal and state levels to preserve green technology, including allocating funds, would greatly benefit the community.
"For example, the Net Energy Metering (NEM) project will be continued until the end of 2024. So, through the Green Technology Corporation, I will ensure that this programme is implemented efficiently. In the meantime, we will double efforts to encourage homeowners to switch to using solar energy in their homes," he added.
