KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Huawei has delivered a total of 2.6 gigawatts (GW) of solar inverters to Malaysia to date, which will generate about 3.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to reducing carbon emissions by 1.81 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, said Huawei Digital Power vice-president Chong Chern Peng.

Complementing the latest National Energy Transition Roadmap, the company cooperates with Malaysian partners in the renewable energy sector, using digital technologies to achieve greater efficiency, he said.

“To drive the adoption of renewable energy, Huawei continues to invest in green power for the intelligent world.

“By embedding our artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into photovoltaic systems, we have increased energy yields by three per cent over traditional solutions, increasing the viability of solar power as a major power source,” he said in his keynote address during the Green Energy Summit segment of the Malaysia ICT Summit 2023 here today.

Chong noted as cloud and AI have become rising industries in Malaysia, more and more data centres are being built.

Hence, he said that Malaysia needs to focus on unleashing the green connection, computing and storage capacity by building green, simple, smart, and reliable data centres.

He said Huawei aims to drive watts with bits towards building a fully connected smart grid and bridging the energy divide to power the digital world.

“We all need to work together to make this a reality and build a sustainable digital world. Only via collaboration and cooperation can this become a reality,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority’s green technology division deputy director Afzanil Md Anuar said Malaysia is ranked first in Southeast Asia and 35th in the world on the Energy Transition Index by the World Economic Forum.

“The recognition demonstrates the country’s system performance and preparedness to win a share of the global investments into clean technology and products.

“It is timely that Malaysia transforms into an economy that is driven by technology and content-led to attract new and high-quality investments,” he said.

The Green Energy Summit segment of the Malaysia ICT Summit 2023 is organised by Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd to share insights and experiences so that we can learn from each other, spark ideas, unearth possibilities and overcome challenges in an emerging digital power era.
