Seda Shares Sustainable Energy Management Guidelines In Conjunction With Aidilfitri

KUALA LUMPUR, April (Bernama) -- Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia  recommends that those planning to leave their homes during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays practise sustainable energy management, including reducing excessive energy consumption.

In a statement today, it said that this can be achieved by consuming energy with prudence, including turning off lights and electronic equipment when not in use, using energy-efficient equipment and lighting such as LED light bulbs, and positioning furniture properly so as not to obstruct airflow or affect the temperature in the house.

“Preparing Raya dishes also involves the use of a lot of energy. Changing existing equipment to energy-efficient appliances that have a four-or five-star rating by the Energy Commission will be able to contribute to energy savings,” read the statement.

The public is also encouraged to make the most of natural light by opening windows and curtains, particularly during the day, and allowing room for outside air to enter because doing so can lessen the need for artificial lighting and aid with the reuse of renewable energy.

In addition, SEDA recommends the use of modes of transportation that actively preserve the environment.

“Motor vehicle (exhausts) are the major source of air pollution in major cities, contributing 90 per cent of carbon dioxide gas emissions. Therefore, if possible, opt for low-carbon and energy-efficient modes of transportation, such as taking the bus, walking, cycling, or carpooling.

“If you can afford it, you can choose to use an electric or hybrid car to attain maximum energy efficiency,” according to the statement.

SEDA also encouraged sustainable energy practises in the workplace by turning off lights and electronic devices when not in use, using energy-efficient office equipment and fostering energy-saving attitudes among employees.

According to SEDA, the three principles that must be adopted to keep the environment protected are reducing, reusing, and recycling (3R) waste products.

For instance, the public is advised to reduce the use of plastic bags when buying Hari Raya essentials and bring their own food containers every time they visit Ramadan bazaars.

“This is the best course of action to lessen the amount of solid waste generated on earth and protect the environment in this country.

“By taking these steps, the public can reduce energy consumption and contribute to a greener future, thus supporting SEDA's efforts to enhance the energy transition to address climate change and greenhouse gas emission issues,” it said.
