KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- The COLDGROW™ CGR energy system, the on-site application of the liquified natural gas (LNG) based technology, was launched today at the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) Partnership Hub in Cyberjaya by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang.

The project is a collaborative effort between MIGHT and Wasave Sdn Bhd, and marks a significant milestone in MIGHT’s serious intent to address and provide alternative solutions to contemporary energy efficiency, climate change, food security and smart cities challenges.

MIGHT’s president and chief executive Datuk Dr Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman said in a statement today that the collaboration demonstrates the importance of a conducive ecosystem to translate cutting-edge technology into commercial success.

“The COLDGROW™ CGR system will be Malaysia’s first operational showcase to be accessible to local and international industry players.

“MIGHT is fully committed in supporting the national aspiration to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2050. Our decarbonisation efforts are anchored on four levers: sustainable and energy-efficient technologies, a partnership between stakeholders, industry replicability and alignment with ESG,” he said.

The COLDGROW™ CGR energy system is set to provide a constant 150RT cooling with up to 75 per cent reduction in carbon emission.

The regasification and cold recovery process will fulfil the chilled water required to meet MIGHT’s cooling needs at a lower energy cost as MIGHT’s facility has until the present, been reliant on the 25-year-old district cooling service (DCS).

Wasave co-founder, Munira Shahrul Baharin said the most attractive element of the COLDGROW™ technology is its modularity and versatility, which allows it to be deployed across various sectors and facilities of the industry.

This includes data centres, electrical and electronics, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing, cold room, storage warehouses and low temperate greenhouses.

Earlier at the launch, Chang commended MIGHT’s efforts in aligning with the nation’s aspiration towards Net Zero 2050 and its active nurturing of start-ups in emerging technology areas.

This is especially crucial in key areas such as energy efficiency technology, developing modular energy efficiency concepts, harnessing alternative energy possibilities and creating complementary LNG energy options for new and existing renewable energy users.
