KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, GSPARX Sdn Bhd have signed a supply agreement for renewable energy (SARE) with AEON Co (M) Bhd for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities at all AEON Malls and AEON BiG nationwide.
Under the agreement, GSPARX will instal and maintain a 77,000-kilowatt peak (kWp) PV system at the AEON ecosystem for 25 years.
TNB chief strategy and ventures officer Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan said the initiative with AEON is expected to continue until 2024.
Each installation of the PV sites costs about RM3 to RM4 million and will be invested by TNB as part of the zero capital expenditure business model offered by GSPARX in an effort to encourage clients to participate in its RE initiatives to meet the net zero target by 2050.
The initiative will help AEON to self generate its electricity and allow savings of up to 30 per cent, he told reporters after the signing ceremony here today.
"The focus will be on the big malls so that AEON customers can enjoy the benefits faster," he added.
Meanwhile, AEON Co deputy managing director Tsugutoshi Seko said the first installation for this project was completed in October 2022 at Alpha Angle Mall in Wangsa Maju, featuring 1,513 kWp of PV solar on the rooftop and ground level open-air car park.
The first phase of the PV installation will be carried out at 11 AEON malls this year.
"We see this as a fantastic opportunity to continuously promote energy-saving initiatives and deliver a greener future," Seko added.
