IPOH, Feb 20 -- Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has forged strategic collaboration with Ipoh City Council (MBI) to supply efficient energy products and services, as well as renewable energy solutions to promote sustainable and green living.
In a statement today, TNB this encompassed photovoltaic solar system installation, smart LED street lightings, energy performance system, monitoring system, electric vehicle charging ecosystem and smart meters that were among the components towards making Ipoh a smart city by 2030.
“This strategic cooperation has been forged through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between TNB and MBI and also the supply agreement for renewable energy (SARE) with TNB’s wholly-owned subsidiary, GSPARX Sdn Bhd in conjunction with the launching of the MBI Strategic Plan, Ipoh Low-Carbon and Walkable City 2030 last Feb 9.
“TNB is committed to helping Ipoh achieve the dream of becoming a smart, liveable, resilient and sustainable city by 2030, in line with the utility company’s direction of sustainability to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050,” it said.
For the record, cooperation between TNB, MBI and GSPRAX Sdn Bhd started in January, last year through the Smart City Blueprint Programme involving the signing of a SARE for the installation of photovoltaic solar panels at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) building.
The installation was completed in July 2021 with savings on the electricity bills for MBI amounting to RM2.5 million within a period of 21 years.
In the same statement, TNB chief executive officer, Datuk Baharudin Din said the strategic collaboration would boost the two-way cooperation between both parties, particularly in the economic and social welfare aspects.
“Through careful planning and sharing of expertise, we are confident of fulfilling our promise of creating a conducive environment to support both aspects in achieving the objectives of the Ipoh Smart City Action Plan 2020-2030,” he added.
