ALOR SETAR, Oct 5 -- The Kedah government has targeted all utilities, including electricity and water, at the project site of Kedah Rubber City (KRC) in Padang Terap to be ready in one year.
Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the matter should be expedited in order to fulfil the needs of investors who will operate there.
"I was told earlier that the normal time taken to have power supply to KRC would take up to five years.
"We have asked for it to be expedited … we will do everything in our power to get it done within a year.
"It is crucial that we ensure that the supply of power and water is ready for KRC as soon as possible as the project will create a huge economic spillover to the people in Padang Terap district,” he told a media conference after receiving a courtesy call from Minister of Rural Development Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid at Wisma Darul Aman here today.
Muhammad Sanusi said two companies have expressed commitment to invest in the industrial park with investments of over RM1.55 billion, adding that a task force would be set up, which comprises all relevant agencies in the state, and also national utility company Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Syarikat Air Darul Aman to expedite technical works.
“By next October, we want all issues related to land and the supply of water and electricity to be completed,” he said.
KRC is a 505 ha national project under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).
