KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 -- Residents in Kampung Lawang, Jeli, Kelantan can now enjoy better internet access, thanks to the MySurFi programme.
The first-of-its-kind corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, introduced by Serba Dinamik Group Berhad and carried out in collaboration with Mosyawa Sdn Bhd provides high-speed Internet via satellite to residents in rural areas.
Serba Dinamik ’s Space Technology Division, in a statement today said the initiative was also made possible with the cooperation of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed who is also Jeli member of Parliament.
Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lawang was selected as the first location for the installation of the satellite internet in Kelantan before being expanded to districts in Kelantan.
In order to help lessen the burden of residents in the village amid this current pandemic, the statement said Serba Dinamik has also agreed to provide free high-speed internet for six months.
Meanwhile, a staff at SK Lawang, Samsiah Zainal Abidin said she was grateful and thankful as the programme had enabled her to be in touch with her sibling in Kedah on Hari Raya Aidiladha morning though she could not return home due to the inter-state movement restrictions.
SK Lawang headmaster Hassan Che Awang said, currently the internet is not an option but is a major requirement, especially for home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).
Hassan, in a ‘google meet’ live through the MySurFi service with Mustapa expressed his determination to open the school area to students who are still outside the coverage area and to have the MySurFi service expanded further after the trial and testing phase in the area is over.
According to Mustapa, the MySurFi service is very important because there is a need to provide internet access in areas without fiber connection or cellular data coverage in Malaysia, such as at SK Lawang.
A week earlier, during the MySurFi installation phase, both companies also took the opportunity to meet the community around Kg Lawang to brief them on satellite internet services.
In addition, representatives of Serba Dinamik Care Team also distributed aid to those in need as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
