PUTRAJAYA, April 19 -- The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) is set to boost the promotion of the Sustainability Achieved via Energy Efficiency (SAVE) 2.0 programme, as only 40,000 households have benefited from it so far.
SEDA chairman Lukanisman Awang Sauni said only RM8 million out of the RM30 million allocated by the government had so far been spent under the programme, which is expected to benefit 140,000 households.
SAVE 2.0 offers an e-rebate of RM200 to households purchasing energy-efficient air conditioners or refrigerators through the Lazada and Shoppee platforms, whereby the items sold must be certified by Energy Commission (ST) as four- or five-star energy appliances.
Speaking to reporters after attending the SEDA Malaysia Kasih Ramadan event which feted 33 residents of Rumah Bakti Al-Kausar Bangi here today, he said SEDA would identify the constraints and problems in redeeming the rebate.
"SEDA also received applications for the rebate to be extended to all electrical appliances, and indirectly it will generate income for other electrical appliance dealers," he said.
Lukanisman, who is also Sibuti MP, said the process for the rebates would also be improved, for example, by allowing redemptions at physical retail shops, as online purchases inconvenienced rural residents, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah in his speech at the event said stern action would be taken against any party including the state government who did not cooperate in the implementation of the Renewable Energy (RE) industry project.
He said this included withdrawing the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) quota that had been approved in accordance with the powers and provisions of the law.
