KUALA LUMPUR, March 16  -- The inaugural virtual IMM Week 2021 conference organised by Young Professional Committee of Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM) aims to share knowledge on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0), which affects each organisation in the modern economy.

Themed “The Evolution of Material, Science and Technology In The Post-COVID Era”, the five-day conference that began yesterday (March 15) also aims to create awareness of the key elements and initiatives involved in the digital transformation of the industries and learning centres via evolving technologies and business case considerations, IMM said.

“(Also covered are) issues around change management, software strategies and how to make the leap to full digital transformation,” the professional society said in a statement today.

The organiser also expressed hope that throughout this week, participants will discover the latest technologies, digitalisation, best practice, research, lessons learned and innovative solutions surrounding the constant challenges in ensuring the quality and integrity of the assets with new strategies for significant costs improvements.

Moreover, students and young professionals will benefit from sharing sessions and relevant awareness campaigns set up especially for them.

IMM president Datuk Dr Ir Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said that over the last two years, IMM has strived to spread awareness on the importance of innovation and technological development especially in the concept of IR4.0.

Karim, who is also  Serba Dinamik  Holdings Bhd group managing director and chief executive officer, said although digitalisation is not new to many people, new technologies are being developed across all industries.

“With the current pandemic issue gripping the world, we are seeing more and more digitalisation taking place around the globe.

“Global lockdowns and physical distancing have pushed for virtual meetings, contactless payment, virtual conferences, and online shopping, among others, that have become the new norm,” he said.

He added that IMM hopes future professionals will be familiar with the “disruptive” technologies in the material, science and technology space ranging from initial material selection to full life cycle operational asset management such as robotics, automation, non-intrusive remote corrosion monitoring, online vibration monitoring and data analytics.
