KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 -- Petronas has introduced a new apprenticeship programme for local semi-skilled oil and gas workers in partnership with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and participating Oil & Gas Services & Equipment (OGSE) contractors.
In a statement today, the national oil company said the participants would first attend CIDB’s training institution, namely Akademi Binaan Malaysia before undergoing an apprenticeship programme at 16 Petronas contractors’ facilities in Sabah, Sarawak and Terengganu.
“This collaboration serves as a platform for the training and certification of youths to have the required skills for the industry, funnelling them into employment to ensure a sustainable pipeline of skilled talents for the sustenance and continuity of operations.
“Petronas is providing a great opportunity for youths in Sabah, Sarawak and Terengganu to be employed in the industry in their respective states, in the spirit of giving back to the community,” Petronas project delivery and technology, senior vice-president Samsudin Miskon said.
He said the programme is part of Petronas’ continuous effort to shape the industry through capability-building initiatives and collaborations with various enablers to improve the ecosystem in which local OGSE players can increase their resilience and competitiveness.
Human capital development is one of the initiatives under Petronas’ Lestari programme -- a solution and collaborative platform to strengthen the OGSE ecosystem.
The 16 participating contractors are Amalgamated Plant Engineering Sdn Bhd, BWS Engineering Sdn Bhd, Dayang Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Deleum Primera Sdn Bhd, EPIC OG Sdn Bhd, Evolusi Bersatu Sdn Bhd.
The others are Haluan Cekap Sdn Bhd, Hyperwave Systems Engineering Sdn Bhd, Maysville Sdn Bhd, Petra Resources Sdn Bhd, Rahabco Engineering & Construction Sdn Bhd, Sapura Fabrication Sdn Bhd, Steel Hawk Engineering Sdn Bhd, Transfame Sdn Bhd, Turcomp Engineering Services Sdn Bhd, and UBF Maintenance Sdn Bhd.
