GreenTech Malaysia appoints Shamsul Bahar as CEO



KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 -- The Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) has appointed Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor as its new chief executive officer (CEO) effective today, to spearhead the country’s climate change agenda and to drive sustainable economic development.

With promising credentials of over three decades in corporate Malaysia, Shamsul Bahar represents a dynamic combination of scientific mind-set coupled with technological know-how and business acumen, the agency said in a statement today. . 

It said one of Shamsul’s recent key achievements was orchestrating Benchmark International Ltd, Malta to offer syariah-compliant Green Bonds to green technology, renewable energy and sustainability projects in ASEAN, demonstrating his strategic approach and keen insights into sustainable energy development.

In 2014, Shamsul was awarded the patent approval in 40 countries for a renewable energy system that converts waste plastics into commercial Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel Oil (EN590), winning him the MOSTI’s Innovation of the Year Award, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation’s Catalyst Award and the United Nations Global Cleantech Innovation Award for Green Technology Renewable Energy Systems. 

Commenting his appointment, Shamsul  Bahar said: "I look forward to leading the team with a unified vision and purpose to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a country that is able to undertake bold climate action while ensuring shared economic prosperity.”

Shamsul was previously the managing director of Syngas Renewable Energy and executive director of Saham Utama Sdn Bhd. Prior to that, he was the CEO of Polymal Corporation, during which he successfully turned the company around to become a formidable player in Southeast Asia.

GreenTech Malaysia is a government agency under the purview of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Innovation, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) tasked with spearheading green technology for green growth and sustainability in Malaysia.
