Petronas launches LNG trucking business for off-grid customers

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 -- Petronas, has launched its liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucking business to cater for off-grid customers in Peninsular Malaysia.

Petronas Energy and Gas Trading Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, Ezran Mahadzir said the business is scheduled to operate in the second half of next year.

“Petronas’ commitment to fulfill customers’ needs and requirements, drives us to ensure that cost-effective, reliable and high quality gas supplies are always available to consumers,” he said in a statement today.

He said initially, the loading facility would have four truck loading lanes, with the potential for further expansion.

Ezran said the transport of LNG via trucks could also be the model to facilitate gas conversions for industries.

He said LNG sourced from the Pengerang regasification terminal (RGT) is set to be transported via trucks to off-grid customers located away from the main pipeline, as well as to small-scale customers.

“The key success factor of this milestone is a result of close collaboration across Petronas’ value chain with other industrial players.

“As a progressive energy solutions partner, Petronas takes pride in offering alternative access to natural gas through its new LNG trucking business, in an effort to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment by promoting natural gas as the fuel of choice,” he said.

Petronas is currently providing solutions to support growth of the gas market in Malaysia through the 2,500-kilometre Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline network and the RGT in Pengerang, Johor, as well as in Sungai Udang, Melaka.
