Interest of doing business among international business people still strong

By S. Joan Santani

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13  -- The global economic growth is showing signs of slowing down but the interests of doing business among international business people are as strong as ever.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) managed to get 32 foreign buyers from 23 countries to participate in the 10th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2019) held recently.

Bernama managed to meet three of those foreign business people from mid-tier firms looking for opportunities for joint ventures and sourcing of supplies at a business matching session arranged by the trade agency.

According to the Mohamad Al Jaja, the marketing manager for Qatar-based company, Arabian Specialised Materials, they had identified five potential Malaysian companies for possible partnership or to source products from the country.

“The outcome so far is excellent. We have met with more than 15 companies, out of these 15, there are five companies that are solid to have good collaboration with them.

“This would probably lead to importing the products from Malaysia or we can have a joint venture in Qatar by opening offices in Qatar,” he said.

Mohammad said he is also looking for design engineers to part take in the building of a smart city in Qatar since the Middle Eastern country is moving towards smart city and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Halal Development Centre founder and chief executive officer Amirul Chowdhury said he is scouting for suppliers of green technology products on environment management services and lighting accessories.

“I had meetings with Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) and Halal Industry Development Corp. We are planning to work together for our local community in Bangladesh in the areas of green technology development,” he said.

He also told Bernama that plans are also afoot to organise Bangladesh International Halal Showcase next year, which is similar to Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS).

An International Business Consultant from Panama's trading company, MCLO IBC Pte Ltd Margarita Chow said she is seeking for Malaysian suppliers in areas such as in oil and gas, electronic and renewable energy products.

“A lot of potential suppliers in the safety equipment for oil and gas, we also found renewable energy products and we have been able to get wonderful people to help us in getting our suppliers,’ she added.

IGEM is the region's largest trade event for green technologies and eco-solutions.
