AWG provides drinkable water from air, a boon during water crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The atmospheric water generator (AWG) can produce drinkable water from its surrounding air through the condensation process, especially useful during a water crisis or humanitarian disaster relief effort.

Rivil Sdn Bhd business development manager, Muizz Zainuddin said the AWG adopted the technology from Spain that used the condensation process to turn humidity in the air into water vapour.

"It replicates and mimics the process of cloud formation and rain. The condensation process turns the air into water, then it goes through the filtration process, mineralisation and exposed to UV light to kill all the bacteria before it is ready for drinking.

"Technically, it is a machine that uses thermodynamic cycle with mechanical refrigeration technology coupled with advanced electronic control," he told Bernama on the sidelines of the International Greentech and Eco Product Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2019 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here.

“Water produced by the AWG is ideal for human consumption and other purposes such as preparation of food, irrigation or water supply to animals and plantations.

"The water produced also complies with the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards for drinking water and is certified by the European health authorities," he added.

According to him, Rivil is pioneering the usage of AWG in Malaysia to help provide a sustainable alternative to conventional water supply, especially during a water shortage crisis.

"The AWG machine can produce 50 to 5,000 litres of drinkable water per day, so it is also suitable for use in water contamination areas.

“It is a plug-and-play solution in providing drinkable water for users.

"We have a lot of enquiries from potential customers such as offshore oil and gas companies, vessel owners and hotels on remote islands which depend on bottled water for daily usage," he said.
