KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 -- Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) inks two Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Australia’s Power Ledger Pty Ltd and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) related to collaboration in green technology.
Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) Minister Yeo Bee Yin witnessed the signing ceremony after launching Malaysia's first pilot run of peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading by Power Ledger, an energy trading platform provider.
"Finally we are very glad to witness the P2P finally come into the pilot run for Malaysia. Malaysia marks the second ASEAN country after Thailand to pilot run the P2P energy trading.
"This P2P is something innovative, in-line with our electricity industry reform plan and we would like to see what will be the outcome of the pilot run and we will go way forward," she said at the signing ceremony held during the 10th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2019 today.
In the pilot run, the regulatory sandbox is approved by the Energy Commission of Malaysia (ST) with the P2P platform provided by Power Ledger.
The pilot run which is expected to run for eight months works in close collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), TNBX Sdn Bhd, and the Malaysian PV Industry Association (MPIA) including Pekat Solar Sdn Bhd and Plus Solar Systems Sdn Bhd.
Meanwhile, the MOU with UTM would see the enhancement of energy management as the local university is a known an expert in biogas, biomass and energy management.
