Sabah mulls join venture with Kalimantan in downstream oil & gas activities

BALIKPAPAN, (Indonesia), Oct 1 -- A joint venture between Sabah and Indonesia in downstream oil and gas activities would benefit Borneo, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He cited Indonesia’s vast tracts of agricultural land that inevitably would need fertilisers, which could be produced from oil and gas sources.

"At present, Pertamina is not able to produce fertilisers from oil and gas," he told reporters during a visit to Pertamina Refinery Unit V here, today.

On the other hand, he said, Sabah had its Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) and Sabah Ammonia Urea (SAMUR) which were capable of producing oil and gas-based fertilisers to meet the needs of the agricultural sector in the region towards food security.
