Ahmad Parveez named as MPOB's new director-general

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir has been appointed as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board's (MPOB) director-general effective Aug 10, 2019.

Prior to this, he was the board's deputy director general (research & development), 

In a statement today, MPOB said Ahmad Parveez brings more than 30 years of experience in the oil palm industry with expertise in the field of plant molecular biology, genetic engineering and biosafety.

In the scientific field, he has developed transgenic oil palm and gained recognition both locally and internationally. He has filed 15 patents and authored or co-authored more than 80 papers published in refereed journals and more than 250 conference papers.

In addition, he was appointed as a fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in 2016 and is a member of the National Biosafety Board (2018 - 2021).

Ahmad Parveez is also active in various professional societies, including as president of the International Society for Oil Palm Breeders and chairman of the American Oil Chemists’ Society Asian Section.

On July 1, 2019, he was appointed to the board of trustee of the Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council .

He was a former chairman of the Genetic Modification Advisory Committee under National Biosafety Board (2010 - 2018).
