KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Integrated education hub, EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (EduCity) is expected to save RM2.22 million on the electricity bills over a period of 25 years with the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) following an agreement on Sustainable Renewable Energy (SARE).
The tripartite agreement was signed between EduCity, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and its unit, GSPARX Sdn Bhd.
This initiative was led by Digital Pulse, a unit under Iskandar Innovations Sdn Bhd (IISB), on behalf of Iskandar Education Enterprise Sdn Bhd (IEESB), the operating entity under EduCity.
IEESB director Wan Ahmad Saifuddin Wan Ahmad Radzi said the smart partnership, which is expected to be ready for implementation by February 2020, was part of the group's contribution to the community and future leaders.
"This is an extraordinary opportunity for the generation and future which promote a cleaner environment and increase the productivity of our economy," he told reporters after the signing ceremony here today.
According to him, the estimated savings to be made by EduCity during the first year of the agreement was up to RM31,354.
EduCity, a 121.41 hectares fully integrated education hub in Iskandar Malaysia hosted top education institutions and universities from around the world with top-notch facilities fo students.
Meanwhile, TNB chief ventures officer Datuk Nor Azman Mufti said two locations have been identified to house the PV, namely the Multi Varsity Complex and a stretch of walkway within the walkway, where both could generate 152kWp and 130kWp respectively for a total of 282kWp in electricity generation.
"Annually these two locations will generate 344,816kWh/per annum," he said.
Under the SARE scheme, EduCity could also sell the excess solar energy from the PV installation to TNB and obtain energy credit on one-on-one offset basis to further offset its electricity bills via net energy metering scheme.
"In line with the government aspirations to raise Malaysia's renewable targets and sustainable development, TNB is committed to developing green energy business while meeting the needs of future in a sustainable, reliable and affordable manner," said Nor Azman.
Meanwhile, TNB Renewables Sdn Bhd for GSPARX managing director Mohd Yusrizal Mohd Yusof said to-date, the company has secured 60 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 6,000 kWp.
"At the moment, we have completed about six projects and hopes that by year-end, we will able to complete at least half of the projects from the total of 60," he said.
