Discussion in progress on Petros' involvement in Sarawak's oil industry

KUCHING, July 5 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak government is still discussing with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) on the involvement of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) in terms of equity in the state’s oil and gas industry.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said in principle, Petronas and Petro had agreed to work together.

“It is just on the quantum of how many per cent should be handled by Petros.

“Before, only Petronas is involved in exploration, now Petros is joining with other contractors,” he told reporters after the presentation of Petronas sponsorship to 44 students here today.

On discussion with the federal government over oil royalty payment to Sarawak, Abang Johari said it was going on well.

In another development, Abang Johari said he concurred with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on action under the Sedition Act to be taken against those who call for Sarawak’s secession from Malaysia.

“The action is apt because it touches on the sovereignty of the country,” he added.
