IPOH, June 14 (Bernama) -- The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has requested to train local tourist guides on the goodness of palm oil to promote the Malaysian product, says Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok Suh Sim.
Kok said a letter on the matter had been sent to the minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi last week for further consideration.
"Last week I have written a letter to the minister, I also told him verbally and hoped the ministry could include palm oil knowledge in tour guide training.
"Basically the tourism minister thinks this is something that we need to do because when tourists come to Malaysia they will listen to the tour guides, so they need to be equipped with all knowledge about the goodness of palm oil," said Kok after her visit at ExcelVite Sdn Bhd, here today.
Among those present at the event, were Malaysian Palm Oil Council chief executive officer Datuk Dr Kalyana Sundram and Malaysian Palm Oil Board deputy director-general Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir.
Kok also hoped that the media would publish more news about the benefits of Malaysian palm oil.
