MESTECC to announce RE100 framework soon

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 May (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change will announce the framework for RE100 in a few months' time.

RE100 is a global corporate leadership initiative bringing together influential businesses committed to 100 per cent renewable electricity.

"This initiative will give Malaysia a competitive edge regionally," Minister Yeo Bee Yin told reporters here today.

She added that the ministry had not set any target on the number of companies to join the initiative and would welcome all local and foreign companies from all sectors.

Earlier, Yeo launched the Malaysian Chapter of the Climate Governance Initiative (CGI), a project hosted by the World Economic Forum, making Malaysia the first country in Asia to do so.

The CGI is an effort to reach out specifically to non-executive directors of listed company boards to inform, engage with, and develop responses on how businesses might address longer-term risks of climate change, including a more sustainable allocation of capital.
