KUCHING, May 6 (Bernama) – Sarawak will emphasise on cluster development and trigger industries to promote the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), which is now into its phase two development (2016-2030).
Assistant Minister of Small and Medium Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said to-date, 24 projects have been approved in the SCORE area, with total investments of RM39.94 billion and are expected to generate 17,828 job opportunities.
Of the total projects, he said 11 projects with RM19.06 billion investment have began operations and created 10,262 jobs.
“This does not include two other new investments that have been approved namely steel project and a foaming agent project worth RM17 billion and RM500 million respectively,” he said in reply to a question from Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya (GPS-Jamoreng) at the Sarawak state legislative assembly sitting here today.
In addition, Mohd Naroden said the Sarawak government is also intensifying its efforts to attract local and foreign investors by providing various infrastructures including telecommunications, industrial waste management and energy sources.
A total of RM1.5 billion had been allocated to three agencies under the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) to accelerate the implementation of development projects in the SCORE area in the next two years, he said.
Since 2017, the SCORE coverage area was expanded from 70,000 square kilometres (sq km) to 100,000 sq km, which covers the central area to the north of Sarawak including Limbang and Lawas.
“The Mukah division including Jemoreng is within the SCORE area. Jemoreng is strategically located between Mukah and Tanjung Manis, which are important growth nodes of SCORE, and can benefit from the development in these areas,” he added.
Replying to supplementary question from Yussibnosh Balo (GPS-Tellian), Mohd Naroden said the 330 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Mukah, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed by 2020.
On the status of the new Mukah airport, he said the RM 510 million airport, which is scheduled for completion by 2020, was designed for the ATR aircraft and has provision for expansion for the Boeing 737
