KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- TM ONE, the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), is strengthening its technological expertise in the oil and gas industry in a bid to ensure its competitiveness and differentiation in the marketplace.
TM ONE oil and gas vertical director Ahmad Salman Othman said the company is focusing on complementing the industry with five focus areas, namely operational efficiency, digital collaboration, high performance infrastructure, customer experience, and health, safety and environment.
"We need to go deep into the verticals and understand the business in terms of the actual operational point of view and how digital initiatives can help all segments in the oil and gas space, whether it is upstream, midstream or downstream," he told Bernama in an interview recently.
Oil and gas is one of seven focus verticals of TM ONE. Other verticals are banking and financial services, education, healthcare, public shared services, defence and security, and real estate.
TM ONE's major oil and gas clients are mostly local and international oil and gas companies operating in the country with projects related to connectivity, data management, connected workforce, high-speed offshore network, and radar security surveillance.
Ahmad Salman said both TM Group and TM ONE aim to support and complement Malaysia's oil and gas industry, not just from the information and communication technology (ICT) and connectivity domains, but also from operational excellence as well.
He noted that TM ONE was established to focus and support TM’s B2B customers with its solution and service offerings beyond the traditional connectivity domain.
"We intend to make business easy to ensure that the local oil and gas industry will move to a new level and we want to export our technologies outside of Malaysia as well,” he said.
TM is a member of the Malaysian Oil and Gas Services Council.
"Our strategy is actually looking at how we could be more involved and supportive in the industry. Understanding the industry and its challenges, and how TM can play a vital role as the oil and gas industry preferred digital partner to ensure that Malaysia remains as the regional hub for the oil and gas industry in Asia," he added.
TM ONE enterprise business executive vice-president Wan Ahmad Kamal Wan Halim said at the moment, TM ONE housed a team of about 20 dedicated employees in the oil and gas verticals cutting across sales, pre-sales consulting, industrial experts, business development and post-sales support.
He noted that the company had invested heavily to acquire the expertise and resources in the oil and gas industry to enhance TM ONE's value propositions, as well as to increase and accelerate the customer engagement.
"We have been putting together this team on board since the last two years and of course, the whole value chain is evolving as well, in line with the digital transformation which is taking place in the industry locally and globally," he said.
Wan Ahmad Kamal said digitalisation has become a disruptor in the marketplace, thus changing the way companies managed and transformed their businesses.
"Because of that, for us, we have to ensure that we have the right expertise and DNA on board as well, to ensure that we are always relevant to our customers in addressing their current and future needs," he added.
